The van transfer takes five to six hours, not the three you will be quoted.
What's actually worth your time in El Nido
El Nido is sold as four boat tours, A through D, and they are not equivalent. Tour A takes the Big and Small Lagoons, the postcard shot, worth the crowds only if you are on the first boat out. Tour C has the better beaches and snorkelling at Matinloc and Helicopter Island. Nacpan Beach, 45 minutes north by tricycle, is the finest sand and needs no boat at all. There is no museum in El Nido, and pretending otherwise would waste a day. What exists is interpretive: the Lio Estate north of town runs sustainability and marine-conservation exhibits, and dive shops along Serena Street brief properly on the Bacuit Bay reef system. Palawan's actual heritage collections sit in Puerto Princesa, five to six hours south by van, where the Palawan Museum stands on Rizal Avenue.
