The ruins are small and an hour finishes them, but the setting is the reason anyone comes: a walled Postclassic port on a limestone cliff above turquoise water. Entry now stacks an INAH ticket onto a Parque del Jaguar wristband, so budget roughly 500 pesos for a foreign adult and bring cash. Gran Cenote and Dos Ojos repay more time than the ruins do. Sian Ka'an needs a licensed guide and a full day.
Tulum's museums, and which one to pick
There is no real museum culture in Tulum, and pretending otherwise wastes a day. The nearest substantial collections sit in Merida and Cancun. What Tulum offers instead is the interpretive centre inside Parque del Jaguar and the open-air sculpture and gallery spaces strung along the beach road, including Ven a la Luz, the huge wooden figure at Ahau. Treat archaeology, not galleries, as the cultural draw.
