The Colorado State Capitol's fifteenth step is engraved as exactly one mile above sea level, and the free dome tour beats several paid attractions nearby. Altitude reaches children faster than adults, so expect headaches and short tempers on day one and push water constantly. The Children's Museum of Denver at Marsico Campus is built for under-eights, with a real fire truck and a bubble room. The zoo in City Park is walkable in half a day. The free 16th Street shuttle takes strollers, and the Cherry Creek trail runs below street traffic entirely.
