Ibiza after dark
The club season opens in late April and closes in early October, and outside those months the big rooms are dark. Ushuaia runs open-air and has to stop around midnight, which is why the crowd crosses the road to Hi; Pacha, Amnesia and DC10 go to dawn. Entry typically runs 40 to 90 euro and drinks inside are punishing. The Discobus links the towns overnight.
What to eat in Ibiza
Island cooking is fisherman's food rather than club food: bullit de peix, a two-part fish stew whose broth then cooks the rice, and sofrit pages, the winter meat-and-potato dish. Ask for flao, the mint and fresh-cheese tart, with hierbas ibicencas afterwards. Santa Gertrudis inland and the fishing shacks at Es Calo and Cala Mastella serve the versions worth eating.
What things cost in Ibiza
Club entry is 40 to 90 euro on a standard night and considerably more for openings and closings, while a bottle of water inside can reach 12. A sunbed at one of the famous calas runs 25 to 40 for the day. The Discobus costs a few euro a ride. Away from the coast, a menu in a village bar still comes in around 15.
What's actually worth your time in Ibiza
Dalt Vila, the walled upper town, joined the UNESCO list in 1999 for its Renaissance bastions, and the free climb through the Portal de ses Taules is the island's best hour. Ses Salines' salt pans and the Posidonia meadows offshore are listed with it. Benirras draws a drum circle on Sunday evenings. Cala Comte and Cala Salada earn the drive; Es Vedra is purely a viewpoint.
Ibiza's museums, and which one to pick
This is not a museum island and the honest list is short. Puig des Molins, above Ibiza Town, is a Phoenician and Punic necropolis of some three thousand rock-cut tombs with a small museum on top. The archaeology museum up in Dalt Vila displays the Tanit terracottas from the Es Culleram cave, and the contemporary art museum occupies the old powder magazine. All close Mondays.
