Things to do in Reykjavik & Iceland worth pre-booking
In Reykjavik, “things to do” mostly means day trips and a few in-town rituals. The point of pre-booking is the handful of experiences that sell out — above all the Blue Lagoon — and the guided tours if you’d rather not drive. We link Viator first and GetYourGuide as a backup; compare price and pickup before you commit.
Blue Lagoon & geothermal spas
The iconic milky-blue spa near the airport sells timed entry and regularly sells out — the one thing you truly must pre-book. (Sky Lagoon, in the city, is a great alternative.)
You can often book the Blue Lagoon directly on bluelagoon.com too — compare with the marketplace price.
Golden Circle day tours
Þingvellir, Geysir and Gullfoss in one loop — the easiest way to see Iceland’s greatest hits without driving.
South Coast day tours
Waterfalls you can walk behind and the black-sand beach at Reynisfjara — a long day that runs smoother guided in winter.
Northern Lights tours (Sept–Apr)
A guide chases the clearest forecast away from city glow — worth it on a promising night, and most operators offer a free re-try if the lights don’t show.
Whale watching & puffins
Boats leave right from the Old Harbour; summer adds puffin trips. An easy half-day with no driving.
Glacier hikes & ice caves
Guided-only for safety — a crampon walk on a glacier tongue, or a winter ice-cave tour, is a genuine bucket-list add.
Some booking links are affiliate links — if you book through them we may earn a small commission, at no extra cost to you. It never changes which options we recommend.
Booking tips (so you don’t overpay)
- Pre-book the Blue Lagoon the moment your dates are set — it sells out, and same-day entry is rarely available.
- No car? Day tours pick up in town and remove all winter-driving risk — often the smarter choice Nov–March.
- Prefer free cancellation, then re-check weather: Northern-Lights and some tours can be cancelled by conditions.
- Check the venue direct too (bluelagoon.com, tour operators) — the marketplace price isn’t always lowest.
