What's actually worth your time in Boracay

White Beach is the island: four kilometres split into Station 1's wide sand and resorts, Station 2's D'Mall crowds, and Station 3's cheaper, shadier stretch. Puka Beach in the north is coarse shell sand and far emptier. Bulabog on the windward side is the kitesurfing bay from November to April. Mount Luho's viewpoint is a short climb for a modest payoff.

What first-timers get wrong in Boracay

Arrival costs money before you reach the island: PHP 300 environmental fee, PHP 150 terminal fee and a PHP 50 boat fare at Caticlan Jetty Port, with the terminal fee charged again on departure. Prepay via the Boracay iPass or queue at the windows. Caticlan airport is fifteen minutes from the jetty and Kalibo ninety. Smoking outside designated areas draws a fine.

What to eat in Boracay

Eating here is grilled seafood and Filipino staples marked up for a resort island. D'Talipapa market at Station 2 works on a buy-and-cook system: choose fish, crab or prawns by the kilo, then pay a neighbouring stall to grill them. Chori burger stands along the beach path sell chorizo sandwiches well after midnight. Calamansi juice and halo-halo turn up everywhere.

Boracay's museums, and which one to pick

Boracay has essentially no museums, and pretending otherwise wastes a day. The Motag Living Museum lies on the Panay mainland near Caticlan and is a working rice-farming village demonstration rather than a collection. On the island itself, the closest thing to heritage is the Ati community's small cultural village. Treat anything museum-shaped as a mainland half-day trip, not an island afternoon.

Boracay after dark

The night moved indoors after the 2018 rehabilitation. Fire dancing, bonfires and drinking on the sand are prohibited, with fines commonly PHP 500 to 2,500, so the party now sits inside licensed frontages at Station 2 and along the back road. Epic is the long-running name. Last call generally falls around two, and enforcement here is real rather than nominal.

When to go to Boracay

The month to avoid is May — around 30°C (86°F) with roughly 22 rain days. Prices and crowds track the weather here: March is the sweet spot, May the month most people skip.
