Check closing days before committing a morning: Villa del Balbianello shuts Mondays and Wednesdays, and reaching it means a 25-minute walk from Lenno or a paid taxi-boat. Driving the narrow western shore road between Como and Menaggio in July or August is a slow, expensive mistake.
