Book the Alcazar and Cathedral online before flying, because walk-up queues in April run to hours. Semana Santa and the April Feria fill the city and multiply hotel rates, so check the dates before booking anything at all. Bars charge different prices at the bar, the table and the terrace from the same menu, so ask for the barra price if you are standing.
What's actually worth your time in Seville
The Real Alcazar at €15.50 is the essential ticket, its slots sell out days ahead in spring, and the same fee covers the Antiquarium and the Triana ceramics museum. The Cathedral's Giralda is climbed by ramp rather than stairs, built for a man on horseback. Plaza de Espana costs nothing and is the best free hour here. Metropol Parasol's walkway is optional.
What to eat in Seville
Tapas are ordered standing at the bar and settled at the end, at places like Bodega Santa Cruz or El Rinconcillo, which has been pouring since 1670. Look for espinacas con garbanzos, spinach with chickpeas, and pescaito frito. Salmorejo is thicker than gazpacho and topped with egg and ham. Triana across the river charges less than Santa Cruz for identical plates.
When the weather turns in Seville
It rains rarely here but hard, mostly between November and March. The Alcazar's interior halls and the Cathedral nave are large and covered. Casa de Pilatos, the Museo de Bellas Artes and the Archivo de Indias are indoors, and two of the three are free. The Antiquarium under Setas de Sevilla shows Roman mosaics below street level.
