What first-timers get wrong in Paris
A single Metro ticket costs 2.55 euros and, since the fare reform, reaches any station in the network with zones abolished for visitors. Metro and bus tickets are no longer interchangeable, so switching between them requires a second ticket. Airport journeys use a separate 14-euro flat fare. Say bonjour on entering any shop. Paris after dark
Paris nightlife is neighbourhood-shaped: Oberkampf and rue Jean-Pierre Timbaud for bars, Pigalle for cocktails and small clubs, the Canal Saint-Martin quays for drinking outdoors in summer, Belleville for cheap and loud. Metro lines stop around 01:15 on weeknights and 02:15 on Friday and Saturday, after which Noctilien night buses take over. Clubs such as Rex fill after midnight, and arriving before then marks you out.
