How Dubai costs actually break down

Dubai’s reputation for expense is really a reputation for its top end. Lodging district and paid attractions drive your daily spend; the Metro is cheap (single fares AED 3–7.50 by zone on a nol card), cafeteria-and-shawarma food is genuinely inexpensive, and a large free layer — public beaches, the fountain show, the souks, the abra — fills whole days. This is the tier most couples and families actually travel at.

A beach resort on the Palm or JBR, restaurant meals without watching the bill, taxis or a driver instead of the Metro, and stacked premium experiences — Aquaventure, a private desert safari, top-tier observation decks, a licensed beach club. At this tier your constraint is the calendar: New Year’s Eve and Dubai Shopping Festival dates multiply room prices even for generous budgets.

• Sleep: Palm/JBR beach resort — roughly AED 1,000–3,000 per room.
• Food: restaurant meals + drinks (licensed venues price high) — roughly AED 500–1,200.
• Transport + experiences: taxis/driver + premium activities — roughly AED 500–1,200.

Where the free value is

JBR and Kite Beach are free public sand; the Dubai Fountain plays free every evening; the souks, Al Fahidi and the Marina promenade cost nothing to wander; and the abra is the best AED 1 in the city. Time the trip right — summer rooms are steeply discounted if you can live indoors by day — and spend where it counts: one great resort day, one safari, one tower.
