What first-timers get wrong in Barcelona
Pickpocketing is the largest single cost here and it is organised, concentrating on La Rambla, metro line 3 and the beachfront. Buy a T-casual, 13 euros for ten zone-1 journeys, which is transferable between travelling companions. A nightly tourist tax combining regional and municipal charges is added per person on top of hotel rates and has risen repeatedly. Signage appears in Catalan first, not Spanish.
Barcelona after dark
Gracia's small squares are where the city drinks outdoors, El Born handles cocktails, and Carrer Blai in Poble Sec is a pintxo crawl. Beach clubs along the Port Olimpic run late and charge for it. Proper clubs like Razzmatazz and Apolo do not fill before 02:00 and continue to 06:00. Noise complaints have pushed residential Gracia terraces to close around 01:00. The metro runs all night on Saturdays only.
