What first-timers get wrong in Lyon
A TCL single is 2.10 euros in the central zones, a 24-hour pass 6.90, and the Fourviere funicular takes normal fares with a dedicated 3.60 return. Traboules pass through occupied buildings: press the button, stay quiet, do not photograph doorways. Confusing the Rhone with the Saone marks you instantly; the Saone is the western, curvier one.
What's actually worth your time in Lyon
Vieux Lyon is one of Europe's largest surviving Renaissance quarters, and the traboules, covered passages cutting through buildings from street to street, are its real signature; around forty stay open, including the six-storey Cour des Voraces up in Croix-Rousse. Fourviere basilica and the free Roman theatres sit above, reached by funicular. The Mur des Canuts trompe-l'oeil fresco rewards the uphill walk.

When the weather turns in Lyon
