Helsinki's museums, and which one to pick

Ateneum holds the Finnish national collection, including Gallen-Kallela's Kalevala scenes and Schjerfbeck's portraits, and shuts Mondays. Kiasma handles contemporary work. Amos Rex buries its galleries beneath Lasipalatsi square, so the domed skylights children clamber over are the roof itself. The Design Museum covers Aalto and Marimekko. Oodi, the central library, is free, open late and functions as the city's living room.
