Note the split: the Old Town is closes, wynds and steep cobbles that punish prams, while the New Town's Georgian grid is flat and straightforward.

When the weather turns in Edinburgh

The weather here comes sideways with wind, so umbrellas invert on the Mound and a hood is the local answer. Free indoor anchors are the National Museum and both national galleries.
