When the weather turns in Kathmandu
Monsoon lasts June to September and turns unpaved lanes to mud. Patan Museum absorbs a long dry morning, and the Garden of Dreams has a covered pavilion and cafe. Newari cooking is the genuine find: samay baji, chatamari and bara, best around Patan or out in Kirtipur. What first-timers get wrong in Kathmandu
Heritage tickets are single-entry and single-day, so finish each Durbar Square in one visit; Bhaktapur, at NPR 1,800, will extend your pass free at the ticket office if you ask before leaving. Carry small notes, because change is scarce everywhere. Agree the taxi fare before getting in, since meters are never used. Domestic flight times are advisory, and afternoon winds cancel mountain routes.
What things cost in Kathmandu
Ten buff momos cost NPR 150 to 250 and a Thakali set NPR 400 to 600. Heritage entry is the real expense: NPR 1,000 for Kathmandu Durbar Square, NPR 1,800 for Bhaktapur, NPR 400 for Boudhanath and NPR 1,000 for Pashupatinath. A taxi across town negotiates down to NPR 400 to 600. Everest scenic flights sit around USD 200 to 250.
