When the weather turns in Madeira
Cloud sits on the north coast most days while Funchal stays clear, so checking the island webcams beats checking a forecast. Indoors there are Blandy's tasting rooms, the Museu de Arte Sacra and the Madeira Wine Institute. The Jardim Botanico cable car keeps running in rain, and the Grutas de Sao Vicente are lava tubes that do not care what the sky does.

Funchal's museums are modest and very specific. Blandy's Wine Lodge, in a former Franciscan convent on Avenida Arriaga, runs tastings through casks of Sercial, Verdelho, Bual and Malmsey. What to eat in Madeira

Roads are steep, heavily tunnelled and short, so hire something with real brakes and expect first gear. Funchal's runway sits on concrete pillars, and crosswind diversions to Porto Santo genuinely happen.
