When the weather turns in Victoria Falls

Rain is not really the problem here; spray is. From February to May the falls generate a permanent downpour over the rainforest path, and the answer is a poncho, sandals and a dry bag for the phone. Sadza, the maize staple, comes with relish at local eateries off the tourist strip. The Lookout Cafe is built over the Batoka Gorge and charges for the view. Zimbabwe runs US dollars alongside the ZiG and tourism prices in dollars, but small notes are essential because change is scarce and sometimes handed back as goods. The KAZA UniVisa covers both Zimbabwe and Zambia and lets you cross the bridge to the other side. Vendors at the park gates are persistent. The bridge itself sits in a no-man's-land you can walk without a visa.
