What's actually worth your time in Geneva
The Jet d'Eau throws water 140 metres and costs nothing, though it is switched off in high wind and hard frost. Cathedrale Saint-Pierre charges separately for the towers and the archaeological site beneath, and both are worth it. CERN's Science Gateway is free, out at the end of tram 18. The Broken Chair outside the UN is a five-minute stop carrying a heavy point.
What to eat in Geneva
Geneva's own dish is the longeole, a fennel-seed pork sausage served with gratin. The Escalade festival each December brings chocolate cauldrons made to be smashed. Fondue and raclette cost Swiss money, so the Plainpalais market on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays is the cheaper route. Carouge, across the Arve, keeps the Italianate cafes. Filet de perche from the lake is the standard order.
