Machu Picchu entry for a foreign adult is around S/152 before the train, which typically costs more than the ruins themselves. A market almuerzo is S/12 to S/20; an alpaca steak in San Blas runs S/45 to S/70.
What first-timers get wrong in Cusco
Land and do nothing on day one, because soroche ruins more Cusco itineraries than weather ever does. Machu Picchu is sold by numbered circuit with timed entry and sells out in high season, so buy before booking flights. The Boleto Turistico, around S/130 for ten days, is compulsory for Sacsayhuaman and the Sacred Valley ruins and is not sold at every gate. Carry small soles.

The Centro de Textiles Tradicionales keeps weavers working backstrap looms in the front room and explains the natural dyes. Museo Inka holds trepanned skulls and drinking keros. The Boleto Turistico bundles in several municipal museums you may not particularly want.
Cusco after dark
Alcohol behaves differently at 3,400 metres, and everyone who lives here will tell you so on your first night. Museo del Pisco runs tastings properly, the balcony bars on the Plaza de Armas trade purely on the view, and Procuradores and Tecsecocha form a strip of clubs staffed by people pressing free-drink cards on you. Cold nights year-round shorten most evenings considerably.
