Streets are steep, cobbled and frequently stepped, so a carrier is the only workable option. The train to Aguas Calientes is comfortable at any age; the Inca Trail is not.

When the weather turns in Cusco

The wet season runs roughly November to March with heavy afternoon rain, and the Inca Trail closes every February for maintenance. Indoors you have the Museo de Arte Precolombino, the textile centre, and the cathedral's colonial canvases including a Last Supper with a guinea pig laid out on the table.
