The Hiroshima Travel Guide

Your Hiroshima trip, planned — when to go, how many days you need, and where to base yourself, mapped out before you book.

Step 1 · Timing

When to visit Hiroshima

Now in Hiroshima—:—Sunrise—:—Sunset—:—

March–May, October–November are popular times to visit Hiroshima. When to go, in planning terms: Cherry blossoms in spring, maple foliage in autumn; summers are humid, winters mild and dry. Deciding your dates first shapes the rest of the plan — how many days to spend and which area to base yourself in.

Warmest in Hiroshima: Aug (31°C / 88°F) · Coolest: Jan (9°C / 48°F) · Wettest: Jul (~17 rain days)

Step 2 · Trip length

How many days in Hiroshima?

Pick a length and follow a ready-made Hiroshima itinerary — each one sequences the sights so your days flow without backtracking.

Step 3 · Itinerary

Build your Hiroshima itinerary

A good Hiroshima plan bases you in one central area, groups nearby sights into each day, and leaves room to slow down. Start from a day-by-day itinerary above, then adjust the order to your dates and pace.

Step 4 · Your base

Where to base yourself

A central base cuts travel time between sights.

  • Peace Park. An area to consider: Central memorial district — the A-Bomb Dome, the Peace Memorial Museum.
  • Hatchobori. Base yourself here: Shopping centre — okonomiyaki streets, department stores, the tram hub.
  • Miyajima. For your itinerary: Sacred shrine island a ferry away — the famous floating torii gate.

Step 5 · Transport

Getting around Hiroshima

Trams and JR trains cover the city; the JR ferry reaches Miyajima in 10 minutes. Getting around while you explore: The JR Pass covers the ferry to Miyajima — use it the same day as Peace Park to save.

Step 6 · Your trip

Plan by trip style

  • Family trips. With kids in tow: Peace Memorial Museum (heavy but important), Miyajima deer-feeding, an okonomiyaki-making class.
  • Couples. Travelling as a pair: A Miyajima overnight ryokan, a Peace Park sunset moment, a Saijo sake-brewery district day trip.
  • Solo travel. On your own: Hostels near the station are good; English support in Peace Park; easy day trips by JR Pass.

Step 7 · Before you go

Practical planning

Practical precautions for the trip: Extremely safe. Real hazards are summer heat in the Peace Park and high-tide bullishness of Miyajima deer. Getting around while you explore: The JR Pass covers the ferry to Miyajima — use it the same day as Peace Park to save. Work these into the plan early — they affect which neighborhood to base yourself in and how much to fit into each day.

Step 8 · Where to stay
