Step 5 · Transport
Getting around Okinawa
A car is essential outside Naha — the monorail covers Naha only. Ferries reach the Kerama Islands in 35–50 minutes. Moving between sights: Drive on the left; allow ~2 hours Naha→Churaumi. Book the aquarium for late afternoon when tour buses leave.

- Family trips. With kids in tow: Churaumi Aquarium's whale-shark tank is world-class; Emerald Beach sits next door and the Ocean Expo Park swallows a full day.
- Couples. Travelling as a pair: A Motobu-coast resort, sunset at Cape Manzamō, and island-hopping the Keramas for the bluest water in Japan.
- Solo travel. On your own: Rent a car and trace the island: Shuri Castle's Ryukyu history, Kokusai-dōri izakayas, and English-friendly dive boats to the Blue Cave.
