Buy the combination ticket at the first gate you reach, because single tomb entries add up quickly and the multi-site version stays valid across two days. Thien Mu Pagoda charges nothing, so ignore anyone selling entry to it. Evening dragon-boat operators normally moor at a souvenir stall midway, which is worth settling before you board. Khai Dinh is a staircase climb in full sun. Grab is metered, ending most cyclo haggling.
What's actually worth your time in Hue
The Citadel is half restoration and half open grass, because the 1968 Tet fighting flattened most of the Forbidden Purple City, so weight your ticket toward the tombs instead.
