City Palace is privately owned and steeply priced at INR 1,200.
When the weather turns in Jaipur
The monsoon lands July to September and turns bazaar lanes into puddles, but Johari Bazaar and Bapu Bazaar keep colonnaded fronts you can shop under for bandhani and juttis. Albert Hall Museum absorbs two hours. Anokhi Museum of Hand Printing occupies a restored haveli in Amber and demonstrates block printing on the spot. World Trade Park in Malviya Nagar is the mall fallback.
What first-timers get wrong in Jaipur
Autorickshaw drivers work on commission from gem and textile shops, so a suspiciously cheap all-day rate almost always means a shopping detour. Fix a price before you sit down. The government emporium being pitched to you is not government-run. Buy the composite ticket only if you will actually visit three sites, and note Amber's counter closes around five although the fort stays open.
Jaipur's museums, and which one to pick
Albert Hall Museum in Ram Niwas Garden, an Indo-Saracenic pile opened in 1887, holds an Egyptian mummy alongside Rajasthani miniatures and armour, and floodlights itself nightly. The government composite ticket, INR 1,000 for foreigners and valid two days, covers it plus Amber, Nahargarh, Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar and Isarlat. City Palace's Chandra Mahal and textile galleries sit outside that scheme entirely.
