What first-timers get wrong in Copenhagen
Buy a City Pass Small before you leave the airport: it covers zones one to four including the Kastrup metro run for 100 kroner over 24 hours. Never walk in a cycle lane, which is treated as a road and behaves like one. Tipping is not expected because service is included. Card payment is close to universal and some places decline cash entirely.
Copenhagen after dark
Danes start early and drink outdoors when the weather permits at all. Kodbyen, the old Vesterbro meatpacking district, packs bars and clubs into former butchers' halls with music running to five on Friday and Saturday. Jaegersborggade and Elmegade in Norrebro are the calmer version. Because bar prices are high, buying beer at a kiosk to drink beforehand is completely normal rather than furtive.

City Pass Small is 100 kroner for 24 hours, scaling to about 340 for 120 hours, with children roughly half. Tivoli entry is 145 or 155 kroner depending on the day and the ride pass 245. Smorrebrod runs 90 to 140 kroner a piece at sit-down restaurants and 89 for three at Cafe Halvvejen. A hot dog from a cart is the cheapest hot meal in the city.
Copenhagen with kids, realistically
Tivoli is aimed squarely at roughly three to twelve. Den Bla Planet at Kastrup is northern Europe's largest aquarium and sits on the metro. The Experimentarium in Hellerup is hands-on, and the harbour baths at Islands Brygge are free and clean enough to swim in. The metro is driverless and fully step-free, and the front window seat is a ride children queue for.
When the weather turns in Copenhagen
The Glyptotek's heated palm-filled winter garden is the most pleasant room in the city on a grim day, and its cafe sits inside it. Torvehallerne is fully covered. Den Bla Planet, Designmuseum Danmark and the National Museum each fill hours. The real winter difficulty is wind off the harbour rather than rainfall, and the cycle lanes stay busy through all of it regardless.
