Loop Bus routes run clockwise and anticlockwise on the same flat 220-yen fare, and boarding the wrong direction adds forty minutes for the same money. Kenrokuen's free early window ends at 6:45 or 7:45 depending on season and you must physically exit before official opening. Myoryuji takes phone bookings in English but guides only in Japanese, and turns away anyone who simply arrives.
Kanazawa after dark
Katamachi is the drinking quarter, and the Kurumazaka alley behind it packs small izakaya, standing bars and snack counters into a few blocks near the Sai river. Higashi Chaya's geisha houses do not take walk-ins; Kaikaro and Shima open as daytime museums instead. City buses largely stop around eleven, so a night across town ends in a taxi rather than a stroll back.

Kanazawa with kids, realistically
The 21st Century Museum was built for children to run through, and much of it costs nothing, including the free Public Zone and the pool viewed from below. Kenrokuen's gravel paths take a pushchair and Kanazawa Castle Park's lawns take the running. The Loop Bus is a flat 220 yen, 110 for children, and reaches nearly everything, which removes the long walk from the station.
When the weather turns in Kanazawa
The local saying is that you may forget your lunch but never your umbrella; the Sea of Japan side gets rain or wet snow most winter days, and the city runs on covered arcades. The 21st Century Museum, the Ishikawa crafts museum, Omicho Market's roofed lanes and a gold-leaf workshop at Hakuza fill a wet day under cover. Kenrokuen under snow is the point, not the problem.
