Zone M day tickets run about 10 euro and stripe cards must be stamped in the blue box. Sunday closes the shops almost completely. In a beer garden, a tablecloth signals waiter service and a bare table means you fetch your own, and many gardens still take cash only. Order a Mass or a Halbe rather than asking for a beer. Indoor Oktoberfest tables require reservations made months ahead.
Munich after dark
Munich's evening is a beer garden or a hall, not a club district. Hofbrauhaus is largely tourist theatre; Augustiner-Keller's chestnut yard and the enormous Hirschgarten are where the city actually drinks. Noise rules push beer gardens to close around eleven, which surprises people. Glockenbachviertel holds the bar and queer scene, Werksviertel the late venues. Oktoberfest occupies Theresienwiese from mid-September to the first Sunday in October.

An inner-zone MVV day ticket costs roughly 10 euro. Deutsches Museum entry is 16 euro adult, 9 for ages six to seventeen, 33 for a family. Sunday admission to the Bavarian state galleries is 1 euro. Munich with kids, realistically
The Deutsches Museum's Kinderreich is built for under-sixes and is included with entry, and a family ticket covers two adults with their children for 33 euro. Hellabrunn is arranged as a geo-zoo by continent. The Eisbach surfers cost nothing and hold children longer than most exhibits. Munich is flat, the U-Bahn and S-Bahn have lifts, and under-sixes travel free on MVV services.
When the weather turns in Munich
The Deutsches Museum genuinely absorbs an entire wet day, and the Pinakotheken cluster in Maxvorstadt lets you cross between three galleries in minutes. BMW Welt charges nothing to walk through. The Residenz strings together well over a hundred rooms indoors. Munich's autumn rain arrives with cold Alpine air, so the covered Viktualienmarkt stalls and Schwabing cafes matter more than in milder cities.
