What things cost in Da Nang

A bowl of mi quang or bun cha ca costs 30,000 to 50,000 VND, and a banh mi 20,000 to 25,000. Bia hoi is under 15,000 a glass, bottled local beer around 20,000. A Grab bike across town runs 25,000 to 40,000 VND and a car roughly double. Marble Mountains is 40,000; Ba Na Hills at 950,000 dwarfs everything else.

Da Nang after dark

The night here is riverside rather than clubby. Bridges over the Han light up, the Dragon Bridge draws its crowd from about half past eight at weekends, and the An Thuong strip behind My Khe holds the expat bars and live music. Bach Dang rooftops run to roughly midnight. Sky36 atop the Novotel is the late option and expensive by Vietnamese standards.

What to eat in Da Nang

Mi Quang is the Quang Nam dish Da Nang claims: turmeric noodles under a shallow, concentrated broth with pork, shrimp, peanuts and a sesame rice cracker. Banh xeo with skewered nem lui belongs at Ba Duong on Hoang Dieu. Han Market handles banh mi and seafood, and Bac My An does grilled fish. Breakfast for locals is bun cha ca, a fish-cake noodle soup.

Da Nang with kids, realistically

This is the easiest Vietnamese city for small children: wide pavements, a long flat beachfront promenade, and calm surf at My Khe between March and September. Asia Park's Sun Wheel suits under-tens, while Marble Mountains' steps do not. Ba Na Hills is a full day and a great deal of cable car. Grab is cheap, but child seats are effectively unavailable, so plan accordingly.

When the weather turns in Da Nang

The rain and typhoon season lands September to December, and October and November bring serious street flooding rather than drizzle. The Cham Museum, Vincom Plaza and Lotte Mart are the dry options. Ba Na Hills is pointless in cloud since you end up inside the weather. Hoi An is thirty minutes south, where the covered market and the tailors carry on regardless.

When to go to Da Nang

The month to avoid is August — around 34°C (93°F) with roughly 16 rain days. Prices and crowds track the weather here: March is the sweet spot, August the month most people skip.
