Where to stay in Charleston
The Charleston lodging decision comes down to walkability versus space: base in the Historic District and you can do most of the trip on foot, or base in Mount Pleasant / the beaches and you trade the walk for a car, more room, and easy beach access. Downtown is compact and historic, so rooms are smaller and pricier per square foot than almost anywhere else in the region — that’s the cost of stepping outside onto Rainbow Row.
