Where to stay in Sydney
The Sydney lodging decision comes down to how much you’ll pay, in dollars or in commute time, to wake up near the harbour. Base in the CBD/Circular Quay and the Opera House and Bridge are a walk away, at the highest prices; base at Bondi or in Surry Hills/Newtown and you save money and gain character, at the cost of a bus or light-rail ride to the icons. All are well connected by the Opal network, so no choice here is a bad one — it’s a genuine trade-off, not a mistake to avoid.

- You’re staying a week or more and want to live in Bondi, Surry Hills or Newtown like a local.
- You want a beach-town base at Manly or Coogee without paying CBD hotel prices.
