Getting around Nara
Kintetsu Nara Line from Kyoto (35 min) or Osaka Namba (35 min). The park is a 5-minute walk from Kintetsu Nara station. Moving between sights: The JR Nara station is farther from the park — go for the Kintetsu station if it's an option.

- Family trips. With kids in tow: Deer crackers (shika-senbei) sold on every corner — kids love the bowing bucks. Tōdai-ji's Great Buddha and the museum's digital tour keep older kids engaged.
- Couples. Travelling as a pair: Sunrise in Nara Park before the buses arrive, then a slow ryokan lunch and Kasuga Taisha's hundred stone lanterns at dusk.
- Solo travel. Going solo: Compact enough to see in a day, quiet enough to overnight if you want the park to yourself early morning.

Practical planning
Worth knowing before you go: Very safe. The only local hazard is the deer — they'll bump you for crackers and have been known to nip fingers holding food. Moving between sights: The JR Nara station is farther from the park — go for the Kintetsu station if it's an option. Work these into the plan early — they affect which neighborhood to base yourself in and how much to fit into each day.
