When the weather turns in Honolulu
Rain here is geographic rather than daily: Waikiki sits leeward and often stays dry while Manoa Valley two miles inland is soaked, so a shower is usually a reason to change neighbourhood rather than plans. If it settles in, Bishop Museum and the Honolulu Museum of Art are half-days, and the Pearl Harbor aviation hangars on Ford Island are covered.

What to eat in Honolulu

Honolulu after dark
Waikiki's Kalakaua and Kuhio avenues run on tourists, sunset mai tais and the free hula at the Kuhio Beach mound. Locals drink in Chinatown along Hotel Street, where the cocktail bars and galleries sit in restored 1900s buildings. Hawaii's last call is two, though a handful of cabaret-licensed rooms in Chinatown and Kakaako run until four.
