What's actually worth your time in Blue Ridge
The Blue Ridge Scenic Railway leaves the 1905 depot on East Main and follows the old Marietta and North Georgia grade beside the Toccoa to McCaysville and its twin, Copperhill, Tennessee, where a painted blue line down the sidewalk marks the state border. The Toccoa River Swinging Bridge on the Benton MacKaye Trail is a genuine walk. Mercier Orchards earns a stop; the antique blocks downtown are browsing.
What to eat in Blue Ridge
Fannin County bills itself as the trout capital of Georgia, and the Toccoa is stocked, so smoked and pan-fried trout turn up on menus that would otherwise be pure Appalachian meat-and-three. Harvest on Main does the upmarket version. Mercier Orchards sells fried apple pies, cider slushies and hard cider pressed on site. Roadside boiled peanuts appear in autumn along Highway 5.
What things cost in Blue Ridge
Railway seats run roughly fifty to seventy dollars for adults depending on class and season, with premium cars costing more. Cabins are the dominant expense, commonly two hundred to four hundred dollars a night with a two-night weekend minimum and a cleaning fee on top. Mercier charges a few dollars for a fried pie. Trailheads in the Chattahoochee National Forest are free.

Cabin driveways are steep loose gravel, so a stroller is useless past the porch steps.
When the weather turns in Blue Ridge
Mountain rain here settles in for whole days rather than blowing through. The realistic plan is the Expedition Bigfoot collection, an hour or two among the antique malls and galleries along East and West Main, a matinee at the Blue Ridge Community Theater, and Mercier Orchards, which is enormous and entirely under roof. The Aska trails turn to slick red clay and are best skipped.
