What's actually worth your time in Maldives
The Maldives has few conventional monuments; what you pay for is a specific lagoon. Hukuru Miskiy, the coral-stone Friday Mosque carved in 1658, is the one genuine building, and Male's north-waterfront fish market rewards an hour. Hanifaru Bay in Baa Atoll is worth the boat during manta season. The artificial beach in Male is a photo stop and nothing more.
What to eat in Maldives
Short eats, called hedhikaa, are the real cuisine here: gulha, bajiya and masroshi, eaten mid-afternoon in Male tea houses and the hotaa near the market. Mas huni, tuna shredded with coconut and onion, arrives with roshi at breakfast everywhere.
