Time your international arrival at Velana before roughly 14:00: seaplanes fly visual daylight rules only, and landing later means an unplanned night in Hulhumale at your own expense. Resort transfers are billed separately from the room rate and quoted in US dollars. Away from designated bikini beaches on local islands, cover shoulders and knees. Drones are confiscated at customs without a permit.

Hanifaru Bay in Baa Atoll is worth the boat during manta season. The artificial beach in Male is a photo stop and nothing more.
Maldives with kids, realistically
Resorts are engineered for this, with kids clubs and a house reef in a shallow lagoon so small children can snorkel from the sand rather than a boat. Guesthouse islands cost far less but have no lifeguards and modest-dress rules everywhere except the marked bikini beach. Seaplanes carry no toilet and bake on the tarmac, which is punishing with toddlers.
When the weather turns in Maldives
Southwest monsoon squalls between May and November blow through in an hour rather than settling in. Resorts fall back on spas, indoor pools and the dive-centre classroom.
