Sapporo after dark
Susukino ranks among Japan's three great entertainment districts and is unusually compact, thousands of bars stacked vertically around the Nikka neon and running to five. The 1878 Clock Tower is a small wooden building on a busy corner and famously disappoints in person. Mount Moiwa's ropeway delivers one of Japan's most rated night views. Hokkaido Shrine in Maruyama Park is free and quiet.
