Sapporo after dark
Susukino ranks among Japan's three great entertainment districts and is unusually compact, thousands of bars stacked vertically around the Nikka neon and running to five. The subway stops near midnight, so late nights mean a taxi. Tanukikoji's covered arcade is the sober alternative. Bad weather in Sapporo means snow, not rain, and the city was engineered for it: the Chikaho underground walkway runs roughly 520 metres from Sapporo Station to Odori entirely below ground, linking Tanukikoji, Pole Town and Aurora Town.
