Kennedy Space Center is an hour east and worth the drive for the actual Atlantis orbiter hanging above you. Gatorland is cheap and unpretentious. Orlando with kids, realistically
This is the most under-five-friendly city in the country and simultaneously the most exhausting. Both Disney and Universal run Rider Switch, so parents alternate on height-restricted rides without queueing twice. Afternoon heat and thunderstorms make a midday hotel break non-negotiable with toddlers. Legoland sits forty-five minutes southwest in Winter Haven and is pitched squarely at ages two to nine, unlike the bigger parks.
When the weather turns in Orlando
Storms are near-daily from June to September and usually pass within the hour, so parks briefly empty and queues for indoor rides collapse, which is the moment to ride. If you abandon the parks entirely, the Orlando Science Center, SEA LIFE at ICON Park and the Crayola Experience at Florida Mall are all fully enclosed. Lightning closes outdoor rides before the rain even arrives.
