What's actually worth your time in Orlando
Orlando is a ticket town, and the honest advice is to buy fewer parks and stay longer inside each one. Epic Universe, Universal's newest gate, starts near $139 a day and rewards an open-to-close visit. Kennedy Space Center is an hour east and worth the drive for the actual Atlantis orbiter hanging above you. Gatorland is cheap and unpretentious. ICON Park on I-Drive is a filler evening, not a destination.
What to eat in Orlando
Escape the resort restaurants once a day and drive to Mills 50, Orlando's Vietnamese district, where Little Saigon has served pho since the eighties. East End Market in Audubon Park is a small food hall with local bakers and a serious cheese counter. Winter Park's Park Avenue handles brunch. Florida-Cuban sandwiches here are pressed with salami, a Tampa inheritance you will not find in Miami.
When the weather turns in Orlando
Storms are near-daily from June to September and usually pass within the hour, so parks briefly empty and queues for indoor rides collapse, which is the moment to ride. If you abandon the parks entirely, the Orlando Science Center, SEA LIFE at ICON Park and the Crayola Experience at Florida Mall are all fully enclosed. Lightning closes outdoor rides before the rain even arrives.
Orlando after dark

Real Orlando nightlife lives downtown around Wall Street Plaza and Church Street, plus the Milk District and Mills 50 for dive bars and karaoke. This is the most under-five-friendly city in the country and simultaneously the most exhausting. Legoland sits forty-five minutes southwest in Winter Haven and is pitched squarely at ages two to nine, unlike the bigger parks.
