Orlando's museums, and which one to pick
Winter Park's Morse Museum holds the largest Tiffany collection anywhere, including the reassembled chapel interior from the 1893 Chicago World's Fair, and it closes Mondays. Orlando Science Center fills half a day around its four-storey atrium. The Mennello Museum concentrates on American folk art, especially Earl Cunningham. None of these is why anyone books a flight here, which is precisely why they stay quiet.
What's actually worth your time in Orlando
Orlando is a ticket town, and the honest advice is to buy fewer parks and stay longer inside each one. Epic Universe, Universal's newest gate, starts near $139 a day and rewards an open-to-close visit. Kennedy Space Center is an hour east and worth the drive for the actual Atlantis orbiter hanging above you. Gatorland is cheap and unpretentious. ICON Park on I-Drive is a filler evening, not a destination.
When the weather turns in Orlando
Storms are near-daily from June to September and usually pass within the hour, so parks briefly empty and queues for indoor rides collapse, which is the moment to ride. If you abandon the parks entirely, the Orlando Science Center, SEA LIFE at ICON Park and the Crayola Experience at Florida Mall are all fully enclosed. Lightning closes outdoor rides before the rain even arrives.
What first-timers get wrong in Orlando
Reserve park days in the apps before you fly, since some Disney tickets still need a date-linked reservation and Epic Universe admission is not interchangeable with the other Universal gates. Disney self-parking is $35 a day per car and free for its own resort guests. Lynx route 311 links the airport to I-Drive and Disney Springs for $2.
