When the weather turns in Nice
Go up to Cimiez, where the Matisse museum, the Franciscan monastery and its gardens cluster within a few minutes of each other. In town, the Musee des Beaux-Arts Jules Cheret and Villa Massena are indoors and rarely busy, and Nice Etoile on Avenue Jean Medecin gives covered shopping. The old town's tight lanes shelter you far better than the exposed Promenade.
Nice's museums, and which one to pick
Musee Matisse sits up in Cimiez among the Roman ruins of Cemenelum, costs 10 euros and closes Tuesdays; Matisse is buried in the cemetery beside it. The Musee Marc Chagall is a national museum with its own ticket, built around seventeen Biblical Message canvases. MAMAC covers Yves Klein and Niki de Saint Phalle.
