The Pokhara Travel Guide

Your Pokhara trip, planned — when to go, how many days you need, and where to base yourself, mapped out before you book.

Step 1 · Timing

When to visit Pokhara

Now in Pokhara—:—Sunrise—:—Sunset—:—

October–November, March–April are popular times to visit Pokhara. When to go, in planning terms: Post-monsoon October gives the sharpest Annapurna views; spring adds rhododendron bloom on every trail. Deciding your dates first shapes the rest of the plan — how many days to spend and which area to base yourself in.

Warmest in Pokhara: Apr (28°C / 82°F) · Coolest: Jan (16°C / 61°F) · Wettest: Jul (~30 rain days)

Step 2 · Trip length

How many days in Pokhara?

Pick a length and follow a ready-made Pokhara itinerary — each one sequences the sights so your days flow without backtracking.

Step 3 · Itinerary

Build your Pokhara itinerary

A good Pokhara plan bases you in one central area, groups nearby sights into each day, and leaves room to slow down. Start from a day-by-day itinerary above, then adjust the order to your dates and pace.

Step 4 · Your base

Where to base yourself

A central base cuts travel time between sights.

  • Lakeside (Baidam). An area to consider: The tourist mile — gear shops, cafés, live-music bars along Phewa Lake.
  • Sarangkot. Base yourself here: The ridge above town — sunrise viewpoint and paragliding launch.
  • Old Bazaar. For your itinerary: The Newari trading town Pokhara was before trekking — worth a morning.

Step 5 · Transport

Getting around Pokhara

Lakeside is walkable; taxis are cheap and negotiable. Kathmandu is 25 minutes by air or 6-8 rattling hours by road. Moving between sights: Fly TO Pokhara — the mountain views justify it. Paragliding: book morning slots for stable air.

Step 6 · Your trip

Plan by trip style

  • Family trips. Travelling as a family: Paddle-boat Phewa Lake to the island temple, walk to the World Peace Pagoda, and meet rescued animals at the sanctuary.
  • Couples. For couples: Sunrise at Sarangkot above a cloud sea, tandem paragliding after breakfast, lakeside candlelight dinner for less than a city cocktail.
  • Solo travel. On your own: THE trekker staging town — permits, gear, and trail partners for Annapurna Base Camp or Poon Hill materialize within a day on Lakeside.

Step 7 · Before you go

Practical planning

Worth knowing before you go: Very safe. Trek registered (TIMS + permits), never solo on high routes, and take altitude seriously above 3,000m. Moving between sights: Fly TO Pokhara — the mountain views justify it. Paragliding: book morning slots for stable air. Work these into the plan early — they affect which neighborhood to base yourself in and how much to fit into each day.

Step 8 · Where to stay

Hotel or whole home?

Two ways to book your Pokhara stay — pick by trip type.
