Dehiwala Zoo south of the city and the kite-flying strip on Galle Face Green carry most of a family afternoon. Pavements are broken or absent, which makes a stroller a liability, so carry younger children. Tuk-tuks have no seatbelts or child seats, so book a car through PickMe for longer runs. When the weather turns in Colombo
The southwest monsoon hits from May to September in short violent downpours that flood streets within minutes.
