When the weather turns in Colombo
The southwest monsoon hits from May to September in short violent downpours that flood streets within minutes. Duck into One Galle Face or Colombo City Centre, both with cinemas, or give the National Museum the two hours it needs. What to eat in Colombo

Nothing alcoholic is sold on poya days.

Rice and curry at a local canteen costs roughly LKR 500 to 800, and a plate of kottu lands in the same range. A metered tuk-tuk across the centre runs a few hundred rupees. The National Museum, like most state sites, charges foreigners a separate and far higher rate than the local ticket. A large Lion Lager in a bar typically costs LKR 700 to 1,200.
