What things cost in Cinque Terre
The Trekking Card is €10 a day and €15 on peak dates. The Treno Card, adding unlimited Cinque Terre Express journeys, runs roughly €22 to €35 for a single day depending on season, with multi-day versions cheaper per day. What's actually worth your time in Cinque Terre
Five villages, and they are not interchangeable. Monterosso al Mare has the only proper sand beach; Vernazza has the natural harbour and Doria castle everyone photographs; Corniglia perches on a cliff with no water access and 382 steps up from its station; Manarola gives the classic sunset angle from the Nessun Dorma terrace; Riomaggiore stacks steeply down to a slipway.
When the weather turns in Cinque Terre
Wet rock here is dangerous rather than merely unpleasant, and the park closes trails in rain, so hiking is off the table. Fall back on the train: La Spezia has covered arcades and museums, Levanto a longer seafront, and both are minutes away on the same card. Inside the villages themselves, expect a café and a church and very little more.
What first-timers get wrong in Cinque Terre
Trail closures are the trap that ruins itineraries. Vernazza to Monterosso shut in February 2026 after a dry-stone wall collapse, and Manarola to Corniglia has been closed for years with no reopening expected before 2028. Cinque Terre's museums, and which one to pick
Almost nothing here is a museum, and hunting for one wastes a day. The Castello Doria at Riomaggiore and Vernazza's watchtower are small fortifications sold on their views rather than any collection. Manarola's hillside nativity, lit from December, is folk installation. For real museums, La Spezia is twenty minutes down the line with the Museo Amedeo Lia and the naval museum.
