Corfu on a Budget: What €60, €130 and €300 a Day Actually Get You

What actually drives your daily spend here

Corfu is mid-priced by Greek-island standards — cheaper than the Cyclades, dearer than the mainland — and two things move your number more than anything else. The first is the calendar: the same room in September and in the second week of August is not the same price. The second is mobility. A hire car is the single biggest discretionary line on a Corfu budget, and skipping it is only realistic from a Corfu Town base. The tiers below are per person per day, excluding flights, and assume you are travelling in the shoulder rather than at the August peak.

≈ €60 / day — lean

A cheap room or a shared apartment in the far north or on the edge of town, bakery breakfasts and gyros, buses instead of a car, and the free half of the island: the Old Town, the fortress ramparts, the coves and the sunsets. Entirely doable outside August, and not miserable — Corfu Town is one of the better free walks in Greece.

• Sleep: budget room or shared apartment — roughly €30–45.
• Food: bakery, gyros, one taverna meal — roughly €20–35.
• Transport + sights: blue-bus day ticket at €5, plus mostly free sights — roughly €5–10.

≈ €130 / day — comfortable

A mid-range hotel or a share of an apartment with a pool, a proper taverna dinner most nights, a small hire car split between two people, and a paid site or a boat trip every couple of days. This is the tier at which Corfu opens up, because the car turns the whole island into your day-trip radius rather than the bus timetable.

• Sleep: mid-range hotel or apartment — roughly €55–90.
• Food: taverna dinner plus casual daytime eating — roughly €40–65.
• Transport + activities: shared small hire car and fuel, plus a site or boat day — roughly €30–55.

≈ €300+ / day — generous

A villa with a private pool on the northeast coast or a small luxury hotel, restaurant meals without checking the bill, your own car, and the experiences that are worth paying for here — a hired boat for a day among the coves, a private Paxos charter, a skippered sunset run. At this tier the binding constraint is the calendar, not the price list: the best villas go first, and they go early.

• Sleep: villa share or small luxury hotel — roughly €160–350.
• Food: restaurant meals and drinks — roughly €70–130.
• Transport + experiences: own car plus a hired boat or private trip — roughly €70–150.

Where the free value actually is

The Spianada and the Liston, wandering Campiello, the Kanoni lagoon view, the Bella Vista panorama above Lakones, the pebble coves of the northeast, and every sunset on the west coast cost nothing. Spend your money on the two things that genuinely change the trip — a car and one good boat day — and let the walking, the swimming and the view be free.

• A €5 blue-bus day ticket covers a whole day of town, Kanoni and the Achilleion run.
• Pebble coves need water shoes, which cost a few euros and save a bad afternoon.
• Tap water is not universally palatable across the island; bulk-buy bottled water at a supermarket rather than beach-bar prices.
