Cheaper than the Cyclades. A shoulder-season villa with a pool costs less than a Mykonos budget room.

With Kids

Family Travel

Kanoni’s Mouse Island boat rides, a day at Aqualand water park, and safe swim beaches at Glyfada.

Together

Couples Travel

Old Town rooftop bars, a Vidos Island boat trip, and dinner at a taverna in Kassiopi harbor.

On Your Own

Solo Travel

Old Town is compact and walkable; hiking the Corfu Trail (220km, part or all) attracts a small international scene.

Food

What to Eat

  • Pastitsada. Cinnamon-spiced beef stew over pasta — Corfu’s signature Venetian-influenced dish.
  • Sofrito. Veal in white wine sauce with garlic and parsley — another Venetian holdover.
  • Bourdeto. Fish stew in red pepper broth — traditionally scorpionfish, spicy and rustic.
  • Kumquat liqueur. Corfu’s own citrus liqueur — try it after dinner or as a marmalade.

Transportation

Getting Around

Blue buses cover the town; green KTEL buses reach the villages and coast. Rent a car to explore the north and west.

Corfu Old Town is pedestrianized — leave the car in an outer lot. Ferries to Paxos and Albania run daily in summer.

Where to Base Yourself

Neighborhoods

  • Corfu Old Town. UNESCO-listed Venetian-Ottoman-British layers — cobbled arcades, Spianada green, two forts.
  • Paleokastritsa. A dramatic west-coast cove with a monastery and boat tours to sea caves.
  • Kassiopi. Fishing-village harbor in the north — Venetian ruins, family tavernas, boat rentals.
  • Glyfada / Agios Gordios. The west-coast sunset beaches — sand, cliffs, and beach bars.

What to Know

Safety

Very safe. The main hazards are steep coastal roads if you rent scooters and pickpockets in the Old Town summer crowds.
