Mumbai actually stays up. Bandra West's Waterfield and Hill roads and Lower Parel's converted mill compounds carry most of it, with bars running to 1.30am and some Saturdays to three. Colaba's Leopold and Cafe Mondegar remain the tourist standards. What first-timers get wrong in Mumbai
Boarding a local train is not a matter of politeness. You push, and you position yourself by the door two stops early or you will not get off. Buy a tourist ticket rather than queueing daily. Autorickshaws are barred south of Mahim, so Colaba and Fort mean taxis. Elephanta ferries stop entirely through the monsoon, roughly June to September.

The June to September monsoon is not a shower but weeks of it, and Sion, Kurla and the Milan Subway flood on schedule.
