Bluebonnets bloom in a three-week April window that jams Highway 290. Several barbecue joints are cash-only and sell out by early afternoon, so lunch is at eleven. This is a driving region with no transit and long dark stretches between towns.
When the weather turns in Texas Hill Country
Caverns are the answer here, holding near seventy degrees regardless of what the sky does: Natural Bridge, Cascade near Boerne, and Longhorn Cavern in Burnet. The Pacific War museum is a genuine half-day indoors. The serious point is that Hill Country rain causes flash flooding, and low water crossings here go from dry to lethal in minutes, so never drive into moving water.

Enchanted Rock is eight dollars for adults, free under twelve. The LBJ park costs nothing. The Pacific War museum runs under twenty.
