Distances mislead: Fredericksburg to Enchanted Rock is only eighteen miles but the gate can close by mid-morning on spring weekends. Bluebonnets bloom in a three-week April window that jams Highway 290. Several barbecue joints are cash-only and sell out by early afternoon, so lunch is at eleven. This is a driving region with no transit and long dark stretches between towns.
What things cost in Texas Hill Country
Enchanted Rock is eight dollars for adults, free under twelve. The LBJ park costs nothing. The Pacific War museum runs under twenty. Tubing rental with tube and shuttle is roughly twenty to twenty-five. Wine tastings along 290 have crept to fifteen or twenty-five dollars a flight, which adds up quickly across a day of them.
